Thursday my mom came to Salt Lake and we were able to do a little family history! It may seem boring to some of you, but it was actually really exciting. My mom's family is all from the Spanish Fork area, so we drove there and Mom showed me where my Grandpa Finch grew up as a child. My grandfather had 6-7 siblings I believe, and at one point when he was a little boy, they took in a family member's wife and kids because the father of the family was called on a mission. They had about 13 children all sleeping upstairs on the floor at this time! Can you imagine 13 children in one little house? I was also able to see the house my Grandma Finch grew up in, and the house that my grandparents built after they were married. It was so fun to hear my Mom tell stories about different family members.
Then we went to the cemetery because there were some dates and names that were missing on the records. We were able to find my Great-grandfather's baby sister that there was no information for at all, and several other dates that we needed to complete the records. We also found John Tucker Davis' headstone, who was a Great- uncle maybe? I can't remember exactly! He was a sea captain from England seeking a Northwest passage to America. He came around Greenland and down through some Canadian territories. That strait was named after him and is called the Davis Strait! So there! I have a famous relative! It was really a great day and fun to learn a little about my ancestors!
